Spring Newsletter March 2010

Dear Members,

1) Annual Membership Subs: due on April 1^st. NB: there is no increase on last year’s rates but payment within 14 days, please.

2) Temporary Telephone Mast: due to the removal of a main telephone mast from the Hastings College site the Green has been asked by Vodafone to assist in maintaining the local network coverage by the erection of a temporary mast. This mast will be erected on the club site for a maximum of 12 months. The fee we're being paid will be used for court improvements. At the AGM it was suggested that the clay courts be resurfaced in all weather Macadam and the Vodafone payment means that this proposal can be seriously considered. (See point 3 below). Among extra benefits to the Club is the upgrading of the electricity supply, which is currently barely adequate for our needs. This will be useful should we decide to install further floodlighting. Also several extra car parking spaces will be created after the mast has gone. We stress that this is a temporary arrangement; our contract with Vodafone states clearly that the mast will be removed within 12 months. During this time the relevant authorities will secure a permanent location elsewhere for the erection of a new mast to serve our area. Our neighbours have been assured that this arrangement will be honoured.

3) Extraordinary General Meeting, Sunday 9^th May 7.30 re. court resurfacing: i.e. conversion of clay courts to Macadam (the same as Courts 5 & 6, but not the same colour!). All members welcome please come along, hear the proposals and have your say.

4) Club Mark: the Club is working towards “Club Mark” accreditation the latest LTA initiative! This has involved a lot of paperwork, principally undertaken by Philip Bebb and Rob, our head coach, for which we thank them.

5) Volunteer(s) needed:

a) As part of the Club Mark scheme the Club needs a named Child protection officer. This position hopefully will not generate any work at all beyond an initial half-day course (expenses paid, of course) and the successful completion of a CRB check.

b) Can you type? In the absence of the Minutes Secretary the minutes of two meetings held to discuss the Club Mark scheme were recorded on to audio disc. These minutes still need to be typed up.

c) The post of Hon. Secretary needs to be filled. Duties currently being covered by my wife, Jill (not even a member of the club!), involve writing the newsletter, producing posters, fliers for events etc. I am standing down as Chair at the AGM and taking my Hon.Sec. with me!

Anyone willing to take on these roles please contact any member of the committee.

6) Sport Relief Day Saturday 20^th March; writing before the event we can’t say what a success this was but we thank Rob and James Sherwood for their efforts in arranging a full day’s activities.
